St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation
The St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation is a registered, charitable organization. Our purpose is to raise funds to support the conservation programs of the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority. Programs such as protecting communities from flooding and erosion dangers, educating children about nature and environmental concerns, tree planting, and the protection of wetlands, soils, and forests are all helped through the efforts of the Foundation. The Foundation brings together generous supporters from the community to help fund critical conservation initiatives in some of the most biodiverse ecosystems in Canada which include the Sydenham, St. Clair, and Lake Huron watersheds.
Current Project Seeking Funds:
Giigoonh is a documentary following ongoing scientific research into the Spotted Gar, a species at risk that now inhabits only three known locations in southern Ontario. Ancient and rarely seen, the Spotted Gar persists quietly at the margins of public awareness, despite its ecological and cultural significance. The film centers on a researcher whose work extends beyond data collection into storytelling and education. Alongside leading field research, the researcher has authored a children’s book Finding a Forever Home: The Adventures of Giigoonh the Spotted Gar as a way of connecting younger audiences to conservation values. The documentary mirrors this dual approach, balancing scientific rigor with narrative clarity to engage a broad public audience. This documentary will showcase habitat restoration initiatives, scientific research, and community engagement, emphasizing the cultural and ecological importance of wetlands in the Great Lakes region.
